Introduction

Dr. Sindhutai Sapkal, deeply revered as "Mai" (Mother), was a legendary Indian social worker and humanitarian. Having faced extreme poverty, domestic abuse, and abandonment herself, she dedicated her entire life to ensuring that no child would have to suffer the cruel fate of being unloved or hungry. Transforming her personal agony into universal compassion, she ultimately became the proud mother to over 1,500 orphaned and destitute

I have experienced the agonizing pain of hunger and abandonment. That is why I decided to become a mother to all those who have no one in this world.
